Day Six: Journal of an unemployed bum at home…

February 1, 2012 Leave a comment

Well it appears that the trend will be recapping the day before on the morning of the next…

Blah, Blah, Blah kids to preschool, normal morning routine. I did some laundry so I could be seen in public. Realized that if and when I ever get called for a job interview I will have LOTS of shirts & ties so I look presentable (thanks old job). The comment that my phone will ring off the hook once I posted my resume onto Monster and Workopolis has been proven wrong in my opinion; but I do get the daily emails of local jobs, but alas nothing.

It is only day 3 of my first full week off work and I am already sick of day time TV.  I am one of those people that require some form of background noise when working or puttering around the house, TV, music, news radio something. But I had to shut off the TV yesterday because I could feel myself getting dumber from the mindless drivel that makes up daytime TV. I really am starting to think that shows like Judge Judy, Peoples Court and such things are only on TV so that the rest of the population can sit down and go: “Man, at least I’m not as stupid as that guy/girl.” Really? You don’t think you should pay for the car accident because the plaintiff was stupid enough to give you the keys? Power – OFF! At least the neighbor was busy with some home improvements so it gave me an excuse to crank up the music library on the computer in an attempt to drown the noise out.

I went out to see a store manager about a reference as he was away for meetings only to find out that he was now off sick. Will keep going back as he is definitely someone I want on that list. While at the store I had two job offers, but I really am holding out for something more than minimum wage until it is really becomes necessary. It is funny in a way, this is the second store this week that I visited that offered me work. I guess the fact that I was in the stores on the appointed days and times and did what I was required to do and most times more than required left a mark. The store that has the game night tonight had a number of people comment on the fact that it was amazing that I was still helping my old company and co-worker with the event after being laid-off. I just say to them that there really are no hard feelings; yes it sucks, but no point burning bridges. Sure I could be going ballistic; “How could they, I have a wife, I have kids” etc…etc… But in the end this stuff happens, I don’t agree with it, but in the end I just need to find something else and move on. I keep getting the old line: “This is possibly the best thing that happened to you!” will see…

I was going to head out to the mine today, but according to the highway website the road is closed…dang. One thing about having kids is the fact that the house does not stay clean long, so will take care of some of cleaning, again. Have a growing Honey-do-List which I keep scratching things off only to find more the next day…I have to hide all the pens & pencils in the house. Other than that it will be back to searching the job sites and applying to anything that I can that looks viable. I will be helping out with the game tonight, so I can get more info on what else is happening on the old job front. I owe, I owe but alas no work to go…

On the plus side I think I have the girl coloured on the next Pin-up tonight or maybe later today I will see about starting on the plane.

So enough for now…as some other sparkly has my attention…till next time…OH SO SHINY…

Day Four + Day Five: Journal of an unemployed bum at home…

January 31, 2012 Leave a comment

Day Four:

Well I pretty much stuck with the plan for the weekends, as I normally had them off I would not do much in the way of keeping a log of the events; suffice to say the family did the normal weekend adventures to keep the kids active and entertained.

Day Five:

Day five began as every morning does getting the kids off to preschool. This is the start of my first full week off work,  it was also the first time (other than holidays) that I did not start my week by doing the Monday morning phone calls to clients. This was a big thing, because for the last 6 years I had to start each week calling into what is normally classed in business as a “hostile client”. Every Monday would be a stress point that would start each and every week off on the wrong foot. So it was nice to sit back after getting the kids off to preschool with a coffee and watch the morning news instead. Around 9:00am I started prepping dinner to toss into the slow cooker. Hint for those using a slow cooker: For easy clean-up spray it with some non-stick cooking spray. Was doing a nice & easy pineapple chicken recipe, but I think I might up the level of teriyaki sauce the next time I make it. I then completed adding my resume onto Workopolis & Monster as well as a site that recruits for the Oil Fields. After that I hopped into the car and headed off to finally getting my resume printed and meeting up with a few more people who had offered to be references for me to finalize their contact information.

As we had a appointment for one of the kids later that afternoon at the house, I popped back in around noon to dust and vacuum the place and tidy up in general. One thing about having a slow cooker running is that you come home to the wonderful smell of dinner. It’s great that you can come home and not have to rush around like a chicken with its head cut-off at the end of a work day trying to slap a meal together last minute. As a family we are eating far less processed food so far this year, and that might be a resolution we can stick with. I also came home with 3 nice pork roasts for use in the slow cooker, wonder if I can get the kids to eat a nice BBQ pulled pork sandwich. I also was able to cross off a few things on the ongoing to-do list. After cleaning and lunch I went back out to some of my old stores in town to say thank-you for all the years working together. My wife as picking up the kid for the appointment and I was to get the other one after the appointment was completed. Unfortunately the person they were to meet up with did not show-up, or call to let us know that she was not going to make it. So I got a phone call that it was okay to go get kid #2 early from preschool. We had dinner, I checked a few other job sites, then got off the computer so my wife could do her work.

I went off to start the colouring of my BF109-G Pin-up which I inked the night before. Bit of a slow start on this one as I was having some issues getting a good enough colour match on the girl’s uniform to that of the reference photos. But I think I got it now and have the layering of colours worked out, I just have to remember to start with the blue.

Since this is posting on Day 6 you know how my morning has already begun, recapping yesterday…I really did not think I would be this busy, and still no nap.

So enough for now…as some other sparkly has my attention…till next time…OH SO SHINY…

Final rendition P51 Mustang Pin-Up…

January 22, 2012 Leave a comment

Next in the Series: P51 Mustang. Image is 11″ X 15″ on Stonehenge Paper 250Gsm – White. Coloured with PrismaColor Premier Pencil Crayons. I seem to be getting a bit quicker and a bit smoother the more drawing I do. Colouring is getting easier as well. Reference photo had the red part of outfit originally as a plaid but I could not maintain a small enough tip on the pencil crayon to duplicate properly.

So enough for now…as some other sparkly has my attention…till next time…OH SO SHINY…

So here is the final rendition of the P38 Lightning and Pin-up drawing, hope to get a scan of the image later, but it is just a bit to big for my scanner so I will have to get it done locally. Image is 11″ X 15″ on Stonehenge Paper 250Gsm – White. Coloured with PrismaColor Premier Pencil Crayons.

P51 Mustang picture is next on the drawing board for colouring.

Bouncing around like a caffeinated 3 year old…

December 10, 2011 Leave a comment

So I have been doing some drawing on the side again.  Really been enjoying it too. It is taking a bit to get back into the full swing of drawing again but its getting there slowly. I’m sure my DW is wondering about the subject matter, but since people have always been an issue for me I thought it might work as a good way to get better. Basically working on the theme of Pin-Ups and Famous Planes from WWII. So far have two somewhat completed (see images below), but I have to wait till after Christmas to colour them as my new art supplies are a gift under the tree. I have been bending the virtual ears of a few online artists who’s talents I admire and whom I follow on twitter; and they have been kind enough to give me feedback on the current images and some preliminary drawings. Will see if I destroy the drawings when I attempt to colour them later.

But here is where the caffeinated 3 year old hits the stage; I now have the means to start a larger picture that has been on hold for a while. Add in the fact that I now have multiple drawing boards, I will have two different projects on the go here soon and no real place to store them. Soon the question will not be to draw, but which project to draw. I don’t know if working on both at the same time will affect my drawings as the style & subject matter will greatly vary between the two projects. Debating to hold off and finish the one larger project and come back to the pin-ups or do both at the same time. Ah well guess we will just have to wait and see what happens from here…let me know what you think of the current drawings.

So enough for now…as some other sparkly has my attention…till next time…OH SO SHINY…
