Going to the Birds…and other stuff…

So today was a bit of a busy one doing some errands and running around, but I still got a chance to head out for some photos. First task was to take some stuff to the dump as it was a Free day today (no dump charges) so I ran some stuff out there. Now I know dumps are good for lots of seagulls and crows and the like, but I was not prepared for the eagles slowly circling around 10 feet above my head. I asked the foreman if I could park off to the side so I could try some pictures of the birds playing in the updrafts but I was denied. So on the way to my next task on the list I made a stop riverside since I had about a half hour before the store opened, so picture time! Was able to get out to a small island that is normally surrounded by water so I snooped around out there and got a few pictures. And yes, I took the can to dispose of it properly after the pictures…

After that it was back home until nap time when I could go out again. I did a few more quick errands and then headed to the main city park as I was going to try for some birds in flight photos, but mainly found lazy ducks and geese soaking up the sun. Lucky I made it out when I did as it is snowing now…

Yeah! Sunshine…

It was another nap time, which meant another trip out to a local lake for me to take some photographs, though with drive time it does not leave me much time to trek around. It was a little light on the animals today but I attribute that to the loud family screaming at each other and having their dogs off leash and running wild.  With the sun beating down I had to clean my camera lens over and over due to the constant shower of melting snow from the trees. At one point I mistakenly braced myself against a tree on a down slope and was punished with a cascade of snow on my head and camera. I did get a few pictures today but was hoping for more due to the gorgeous weather.

Starlings are considered a bit of a pest bird around here, but I like the colours some of them show when in the right light.

Trees, I should have used my IR Filter

On the drive home I spotted a coyote on a small hill so I found a safe place to pulled over and started back on foot to see if I could get a photo. I was on pavement, with loud traffic zooming by, downwind and behind it; yet it still spooked and ran off. I saw the reason why about 5 minutes later when a hunter came over the rise, he seemed to be in a bit of an over kill mode as he was carrying a rifle and a shotgun. If he had taken the shot I would have called the cops as he was to close to the roadway. But that coyote really wanted to be on the hunters side of the road for some reason. I was taking the photo of the trees when I noticed it trying to double back; that was until it noticed me and then it seemed to finally give up and move on and still with no clear shot for my camera.
